Alex Ovechkin has faced his share of shutdown defensemen in his seven-year career.
It might be fair to say Zdeno Chara is his worst nightmare.
On Sunday the two behemoths?Ovechkin is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds and Chara is 6-foot-9, 255?faced each other for the first time this season. The Bruins captain won this war, holding the Capitals captain to seven shots and no points.
"I love to play against him," Ovechkin said. "We had a pretty good battle. I know he's going to hit me and he knows I'm going to hit him. I enjoyed playing against him."
Ovechkin saw 20:49 of ice time and was double shifted when Brooks Laich left the game midway through the second period with a knee injury.

Playing about 10 blocks from the White House -- a place he famously avoided because of his political views two weeks ago when the reigning Stanley Cup champions were honored by President Barack Obama -- Thomas shut out the Capitals until late in the third period as the Bruins snapped a two-game losing streak.
