After two years in ownership limbo, any news on that front would be good news for Coyotes fans. But a report that a new investor had entered the game—one with deep pockets and deep roots in the sport—was cause for major applause.

The question now is whether Matthew Hulsizer, the CEO of PEAK6 Investments out of Chicago and a former college hockey player, can go where Jerry Moyes, Jerry Reinsdorf, Ice Edge Holdings and all the rest of those either trying to sell or coming up short of buying have yet to travel. Can he close this deal and finally give this unstable franchise some solid footing?

The Coyotes might wind up with the best of both worlds if reports that Ice Edge could be part of the deal as an investor/adviser.
