The Florida Marlins got a small measure of revenge against the San Diego Padres, and in spacious Petco Park, no less. Cody Ross and Gaby Sanchez homered off Wade LeBlanc and the Marlins beat NL West-leading San Diego 4-2 on Friday night on just five hits in Miguel Tejada's first game with the Padres.

Miguel Tejada found himself in a pennant race and back at shortstop when he reported to the NL West-leading San Diego Padres on Friday. Manager Bud Black wasted no time in plugging Tejada into a key spot in the lineup for the first-place Padres against the Florida Marlins on Friday night, batting him fourth behind All-Star slugger Adrian Gonzalez.

Fri, 30 Jul 2010 02:30:52 PDT
pWhen the Padres first started talking about being a buyer as the trading deadline approached, the word was that they would seek an outfielder or another starting pitcher./p pThen second baseman David Eckstein went on the disabled list July 21 with his second right calf strain in a span of three weeks./p pSuddenly the Padres' trade focus switched to the infield. If Eckstein were going to be lost for an extended period of time, or if his injury were to occur again, the Padres were really weak in the infield. Struggling shortstop Everth Cabrera has again slipped under .200. And with Eckstein out, the backup infielder is right-handed pinch hitter Oscar Salazar./p pA club official said the Padres weren't going to win the National League West with Cabrera at shortstop.
Oswalt traded to Phillies; Tejada, Cantu also move (AP)

Roy Oswalt granted his own wish: He's now part of a pennant race. Miguel Tejada, Jorge Cantu and Matt Capps joined the mix, too. The trade wheel of fortune kept spinning Thursday with veterans-for-prospects deals that typically dot the stretch run. More swaps were expected before Saturday's 4 p.m.
