MLB Power Poll: Sins of the Padres (SportingNews.com)
Tue, 07 Sep 2010 09:14:00 PDT
It's impossible to talk about the San Diego Padres' 2010 season without using some variation of the word "surprise." As in, they were surprisingly good for so long that it's pretty surprising they've fallen so quickly. On Aug. 26, they had 76 victories and were -- surprisingly (OK, shockingly) -- tied with the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays in the loss column in the race for baseball's best record. When Labor Day arrived, they still had 76 victories.

The side-winding Neshek was 5-1 with a 3.89 ERA in Rochester. He has also appeared in six games with the Twins, allowing two runs in 4 1-3 innings. Perkins was 4-9 with a 5.81 ERA for Rochester.

Jim Thome's home run in the fifth inning was one of those shots that fans will remember for a while. But it was Jason Kubel's homer moments earlier that sparked the Minnesota Twins to another win. Kubel hit the go-ahead homer and Thome launched his 585th career home run one batter later, powering the Minnesota Twins past the Kansas City Royals 5-4 Monday.
