Fri, 30 Jul 2010 21:37:01 PDT
Armando Galarraga hobbled around the Detroit Tigers clubhouse after Friday night's game. He apparently was not seriously injured by a line drive off his right ankle. "It looks like an ankle bruise. He was checked out by the doctors" and there was no broken bone, Detroit manager Jim Leyland said after the Tigers' 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox.

Jhonny Peralta's debut with Detroit was powerful enough to withstand a late grand slam by David Ortiz. Peralta hit two homers in his first game since being traded and the struggling Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox 6-5 on Friday night despite Ortiz's ninth-inning homer against closer Jose Valverde.

pTampa Bay walked Miguel Cabrera three straight games with runners on first and second and two outs./p pThree straight times, Brennan Boesch made the third out of the inning (pop-up, strikeout, groundout)./p pThat tells you all you need to know about where the Tigers are right now./p pYet manager Jim Leyland is not worried about Cabrera getting frustrated./p p"He's a real smart guy," Leyland said. "You'd worry sometimes about guys trying to expand (the strike zone) too much, maybe trying to put too much on their shoulders."/p pToo many rookies and not enough lineup punch are making it easy for managers to pitch around Cabrera, who somehow is getting his share of hits anyway.

David Price keeps on pitching like an All-Star. Price became the AL's first 14-game winner, Carlos Pena had four RBIs and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 4-2 Thursday to complete a four-game sweep. "He's one of the best pitchers, there's no question about it. Everybody knows that," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.
